Our Family

Back in 1979 Betty Poeppelman was invited by a friend to listen to a speaker about nutrition. She was so moved by the speaker that she went home, took out a garbage bag and removed every item in the cupboard that contained sugar or white flour. Betty was the mother of six children and was sick and tired of being sick and tired. For the next two years she went to every class and seminar she could to learn more about the alternative health field. Betty would come home and apply what she learned to friends and family. She soon became the go to person in the area whenever someone was not feeling well or had a pain or an injury. She became so popular that her brother suggested her opening her own store. In January 1982 that is exactly what she did. Betty started out with one small shelf of Nature's Sunshine herbs and supplements in her kitchen that quickly expanded with the addition of dried fruits and nuts. As her customer base grew, so did the need for more space. Betty took the kitchen bar and moved it into her living room and added several more product lines and a large cooler. Betty quickly found herself quite busy reading people's eyes and working on their feet. Over the past 30 years Betty has expanded her lines to feature products from Nature's Sunshine, Pure Herbs, Young Living Essential Oils, Luyties Homeoapathy, Trace Minerals, Terry Naturally, Enzymatic Therapy and Berlin Bakery.

At age 70 Betty decided it was time to pass the business on to the next generation. On May 1st, 2013 Betty's youngest child Darrin purchased the store from Betty. Darrin was just five years old the day he saw Betty dumping out his sugar coated cereal into a garbage bag. Growing up with Betty, Darrin was educated daily on proper nutrition and used most of the products in the store at one time or another. Betty spends most of the day mentoring Darrin and plans on continuing to working at the store for several more years.

In December 2013, Darrin purchased a house on Main Street in Osgood to move Betty's Natural Foods. This new location will have more room to display products and two extra rooms for foot bathes, consultations and reflexology. There is also a finished basement that will be utilized for classes on various product lines. The new store will open in the spring of 2014 with expanded hours on Thursday and Saturday mornings along with evening hours on Wednesday nights during the school year.
